Finnish international Timo Lahti is set for his World Championship debut after being handed the wild card for the Finnish FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Tampere on May 16.
Lahti dons the famous No.16 race jacket as the sport’s biggest stars return to the Ratina Stadium for the second SGP round of 2015.
The 22-year-old, who was crowned Finnish champion in 2012 and won five Finnish Under-21 titles, has emerged as one of the nation’s brightest racing prospects.
He appeared in the 2013 GP Challenge at Poole – the last round of the SGP qualification rounds – and stars in the Swedish Elitserien, where he played a vital role in Rospiggarna reaching the play-off semi-finals in 2014.
He also races for Gnistorna in the Swedish Allsvenskan League, Munkebo in the Danish Speedway League, Mseno in the Czech Republic and Lublin in the Polish Second Division, as well as Sand Blowers of Hyvinkaa in his homeland.
Lahti is joined in the Tampere field by track reserves Nike Lunna and Jiri Nieminen, who wear the No.17 and No.18 race jackets respectively.
Lunna races for Scunthorpe in the British Premier League, while Nieminen competes for Lahti-based Haukat in Finland.
The referee for the Finnish SGP is Krister Gardell of Sweden.
